Quality Assessment of Film and Tape for Television Main Menu

Overview
These courses have been designed in consultation with the Independent Television Facilities Company (ITFC) and replace the courses previously operated by them. They have been considerably enhanced to include such topics as compression artefacts. The course duration has been extended to allow more time for audio quality aspects. Two different courses are offered.

Quality Monitoring of Sound and Vision (QA/M)

Course Outline
Very few organisations enjoy the luxury of a fully equipped quality assessment area in accordance with the international guidelines discussed and demonstrated in the well established JLA QA1 course.

This two day course concentrates on recognising and assessing the severity of the more obvious faults that are easily detected in most typical operational listening and viewing environments. It is intended for personnel engaged in every day quality monitoring in a limited listening and viewing environment, i.e. equipment rooms control rooms etc.

The course is aimed at technical staff, it contains discussion and practical demonstration.

Quality Assessment of Film and Tape for Television (QA1)
Level 1 (Basic)

Course Outline
This is a three day course intended for personnel engaged in the process of viewing television programme material forperceived (subjective) quality.

The course is aimed at technical staff. It contains both theoretical aspects and practical demonstration. Typical fault conditions will be demonstrated and graded against the ITU 500 quality scale.

Demonstration of the ITFC quality assurance areas is included. The course is suitable for transmission controllers and serves as an excellent first level introduction for professional VTR operational staff. VTR staff would be expected to proceed to Level 2 at a later date.

Quality Assessment of Film and Tape for Television (QA2)
Level 2 (Advanced)

Course Outline
This four day course is intended for personnel engaged in the process of critically assessing television programme material forconsidered/measured objective qualitysuch as that required for digital masters produced by the factility industry and quality assurance contracts.

The course is aimed at editing and/or quality assessment staff who are responsible for ensuring that the high technical standards required for digital mastering are achieved and maintained.

The course will look at the intelligent use of audio and video monitoring equipment to evaluate such parameters as digital error performance, video and audio compression artefacts. Objective technical appraisal of typical programme material is performed and associated Quality Assurance paperwork/log sheets are examined.
