Course Objectives
To give an overview of the future application of broadcast technology to the multimedia network/highway.


Course Contents
This course will be of interest to senior engineering managers. It addresses the current explosion of television broadcasting into the area of webcasting etc. it is anticipated that topics will include.

Concept of digital data streams, storage devices RAID levels etc., the media file, file structure header codes etc., graphics files JPEG, TIFF, BMAP, etc., audio files, WAV, MIDI etc., media packages, Real Player, Quick time AVI etc., streaming definitions and protocol, multimedia concept, multimedia file conversion, data transfer copper, glass etc., Network topology, bus, arbitrated loop, fabric etc., the OSI framework, Bandwidth and bit rates, telephony, FDM, PDH, SDH, etc., Multimedia standards, MPEG, ITU, DAVIC, MHEG, JBIG etc., videophony and videoconferencing. The H,T numbers etc., transfer protocol, frame relay, ATM etc., internet protocol TCP/IP SGML, HTML, PERL, Java etc. Internet radio and broadcasting.

The course plans to give overviews of all these technologies and how they link together in the future development of what we have previously termed broadcast technology! We will not be addressing any of these topics in great detail if you re looking for Java programming then look elsewhere, this is not a programming or web page authoring course.
